Murphey’s wildly popular festival concept has been presented multiple times in many states of the U.S. since 1986, helping to earn Murphey a place in the Western Music Hall of Fame, National Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame’s 2018 main exhibit, “Outlaws and Armadillos”. Westfest has sparked the careers of hundreds of American Western performing artists and fine artists. The Hall of Great Westerners Awardee, Red Steagall, called Murphey's Westfest “the festival by which all other Western festivals will be measured in the future."
Michael Martin Murphey, who wrote and sang the enduring hit Western song, “Wildfire”, introduced Westfest to the world in front of an audience of 40 million on the Tonight Show in 1986, and it was soon hailed as the “the best festival in the USA” by Country Music Magazine, and praised by Cowboys and Indians Magazine, True West Magazine, American Cowboy Magazine, USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times and many others.
