I started singing cowboy songs when I was 15 years old around the campfire at Sky Ranch in Lewisville, Texas. Some were songs my parents and relatives taught me. My uncle (who ranched in Arkansas) and my step-grandfather (who ranched in Texas) loved to hum a tune while working. Since then I’ve been called a Cosmic Cowboy, Urban Cowboy, Outlaw Cowboy and lots of other names describing cowboy types. Through it all, since I was a lad in Texas, I’ve managed to live out west and stay on horseback. Give me a good steel-string guitar, a pony, nights under western stars and a "home on the range" when I’m too old to ride. One more request: Let’s drop all the words that go in front--from now on it’s just COWBOY! And here’s to putting "WESTERN" back with the word "COUNTRY." After all, before there were country songs, there were cowboy songs!
